A modern issue that is more related to this thread is the lack of beautiful monuments being built today. The most noteworthy monuments of today are coming from developing countries, which I suppose are trying to make a name for themselves.
It really is too bad that the richest world ever has lost its appreciation for architectural beauty of which our ancestors were masters.

By 2030 swedes will be a minority in their own country and their HDI will drop dramatically. They are already spending billions on refugees while their welfare state is struggeling.
