"The Starving Time" refers to a period in American history when folk hero John Smith (of Pocahontas fame) abandoned his post in Jamestown, VA to return to the British Isles- because he was the captain and he wanted to. Upon returning months later, he found his camp in turmoil. Without proper leadership his crew had failed to competently ration their foodstuffs and resorted to stealing from Indigenous tribes, which retaliated- so they ate dogs. When the dogs ran out, children were used for sustenance. The crew was becoming desparate when he finally returned, but it can be assumed they would have begun to cannibalize themselves to the last man.
This is exactly why we can't look to authority figures to solve our problems. We must learn to solve issues on our own terms, in our own way, lest we perpetuate the ignorance that runs rampant in society. If all the grocery stores were looted clean, could you grow your own crops? Could you competently defend these crops from wildlife and scavengers? How? Can you build a fence? Properly maintain and utilize a weapon of any kind- not just guns?
There are people out there who care about this kind of thing, and this is for them. If you don't care or don't think the citizens of Earth are susceptible to societal collapse, you're lying to yourself, blinded by pride. Only those who are open with themselves and their minds can truly be open and productive in any society.
