It's just kind of too bad that /pol/ themed shitposting has taken up so much space on this board. This thread would have done fine and probably generated some interesting discussion in the early days of /his/, but because there are more posters there's just too much shitposting about contentious topics and other threads that require more thought and time to prepare good responses to just get bumped off before anyone can really answer. By the 17th September (the day Soviets made their move) neither Germany, nor USSR recognized Poland as a state (as per Montevideo convention USA itself had signed).
This is why League of Nations did not recongize Soviets as aggressors in 1939 (before Winter War begun, obviously) or claimed USSR had invaded Poland - that basically made Poland's non-existance by 17th September internationally accepted fact.

A rise in construction employment of 50 per cent and of services by 40 per cent (although of a reduced overall work force) partially offset the losses. It was before my time so I don´t really get the antagonism but economically it almost killed the west because eastern Germany produced with good ol german quality but at wages dictated by moskau. So the west enjoyed cheap labour right with practically no logistical costs and only a minor fee for the soviets.
Till this day the former eastern block is paid less on average and has lead to an exodus of doctors ect to the west (except in Berlin - worst wages in all of Germany and only teens come for the party scene). It is slowly changing but I wouldn´t bet on it reaching western averages any time soon.
Now factor in the depts the east was put in because of "planned" mismanagement.
