Obviously the numbers are exaggerated, but it goes both ways. It's unlikely the Kalbids and Zirids would have amassed so many troops just to face down what is claimed to be just a couple dozen knights, and it's just as unlikely that Roger had broken the siege at Troina, harried the Sicilian interior, and planned on facing such a supposedly large invasion force with such a tiny force.
