Violence creates dead people. Dead people are weaker than any living person. The most violent and powerful empires in the history of the world are now nothing but a memory/legacy if they no longer exist.

Not really. The republic/state was deified. If you've seen HBO's Rome, you can get an idea of what this was like through Lucius Vorenus, who is described as a "strict Catonian". Today we say church and state are "separated", but patriotism is just driven by Judeo-Christian principles. I'm not saying there aren't atheists who would die for their country, just far less of them.

Yes, if everyone dropped their nationalism and replaced it with finding common ground in religion or ideology we would become much stronger. The problem is that we has never done that and the first push to create a unified Europe to stand up against its Muslim and Pagan enemies failed when not enough people accepted the emperor of the HRE as their supreme overlord.
Europe have always been much more of a region than a unity.
