Hey /his/
My grandfather served in WWII and before he passed he told my mother about a blade he took from a Japanese soldier. Yesterday when digging through his shed we found this knife inside of a leather pouch.
At the very bottom it has "MADE IN JAPAN" etched into it, and the leather pouch has what looks to be the letters 'ECY' on it.
The handle seems to be missing and is replaced with some red duct tape.
I can't seem to find anything else similar to this, we aren't sure whether this is the blade he was talking about or just some unrelated knife made in japan after the war.
OP again, here is the leather pouch with ECY on it.

wtf is it then? Some sort of paint scraper?

Looks like a throwing knife to me, and I doubt throwing knives were military issue. A Japanese soldier could still have had it I guess.
