Austria didn't unify it

Some retard assumed unifying these vastly different peoples simply because they spoke the same language was a good idea.

this

This. A Catholic-dominated Germany would be a better neighbour for France and Poland.

Why should Prussia give a shit about how good a neighbour they may be for Poland and France? Besides, last time aI checked Catholic Austria was pretty shitty to both Poland and France.

Fine, the Polish then.

Prussia unified Germany under militarism after a string of very successful military campaigns instead of one of the more commerce orientated Western states.

Prussia shouldn't have unified German speak states. If anyone would have done it, it should have been the Austria which were traditionally where Holy Roman Emperor came.

Unfortunately for Austria, it was a multi-national and multi-language empire and for them "unifying" German speakers would be political suicide. So in all reality, Prussia shouldn't have "unified" German states.

It was an artificially held up corpse of an "empire", like its predecessor HRE more than anything.
>>
>>851404

No it didnt. It unified it diplomatically through the German Confederation. The only war it had at the time of unification was with France and another with Denmark before that, both ending in victory.
>>
>>851435

And now they still dominate Europe.
>>
>>851159
Prussia's dominance over Germany and its implementaton of militaristic and collectivist culture ruined the state.

Without Bismarck to keep things in check the place was a literal ticking time bomb.

I doubt Austria would've done much better with it's internal strife concerning all of its non-German minorities. The other German states would've never stood by Austria for too long due to its non-nationalist focus.

Those borders are sex

The problem was Bismarck's concentration of power. When Bismarck was running the ship, things were great. But when he was no longer there, all that power was left in the hands Mr.spaghetti.

I just wonder what would've happened if a German Empire was formed by the Austrians, or what if a German empire was agreed by both Prussia and Austrian Empire to form a single super Germany.
>>
>>851553
it was a retarded form of nationalism.
Mationalism shouldn't be about creating big gov empires. it should be about self-detetminasion and regionalism aswel as the preserving and love for your own people

>Push Austria into declaring war against Serbia
>Declare war against Russia(Which you wanted to declare war against years earlier, only Bismarck stopping you), France, Belgium, Portugal
>Indirectly declare war on Britain by invading Belgium
>Anger the USA into declaring war towards you through total naval warfare and Zimmerman telegram
Is that all or did I miss something?
>>

Germany had to unite, otherwise they'd still be a geopolitical tug-of-war between Great Powers, because they're in Central Europe. The Thirty Years War was enough. The problem is that they went full retard and arrogant.
>>
>>851159
Germans weren't exterminated after WW1. That's what went wrong.

And a war with Austria.

Bismarck used Austria from the very beginning. He used them as an ally to push the Danes out of the Schleswig regions in what would become northern Germany, and then immediately turned around and steamrolled Austria, solidifying themselves as the only German state that could unify the others.

Then the war with France was just the final piece to unification. The Prussians had stood up to Austria, yes, but let's not think that 1870s Austria was anywhere as strong as 1870s France (not that 1870s France was the strongest empire in the world, but definitely the strongest state in continental western Europe. Thanks Napoleon III). It showed the other German states that Prussia was the strongest of them all and could handle being the key cog in the German machine.

>>852181
Precisely. Bismarck, for all of his faults, was a brilliant diplomat and politician, and kept Europe together in a time where every state was jostling for either independence or war with one another for colonial and territorial gains.

>>852198
Wilhelm II is the shittiest king. I read somewhere that he actually influenced Lenin, who was exiled from Russia at the time, to go back into his homeland and start causing problems, because he was stupid enough not to resign the Reinsurance Treaty with Russia.
