Evolution is random mutation. that gets passed on. thats it, no progress, hell, we'd get stupider if it happened to one of us randomly and that person just happened to be the most likely to have children.
we could literally evolve back into ape like creatures. there is no progress. the only thing impeding it/helping it would be that we through survival of the fittest out the window. It no longer matters whether your strong or not, smart or not, you have have children.
