After the Napoleonic Wars, the European powers wanted a system in place so that no major war that caused so many deaths would happen again, so the Concert of Europe was a framework that allowed diplomacy to find a solution to a crisis before people jumped to a major European War.
The main incentive to this was the balance of power that was established after the Napoleonic Wars. The major european players were so powerful that no one power can completely overtake the other, acting as a deterrent for war knowing that the Russia could never completely defeat Austria, or that Austria can never dominate Prussia.
but in 1870, German unification and their complete victory over France became a gamechanger. The balance of power was no upset over both Germany and Italy uniting and becoming major players on the stage. The European powers sought to restore the balance by creating alliance systems. If the Germans can completely decimate the French, then they had to make sure that the Germans would be fighting the French and Russians in the event of war to restore a balance. So against all of Bismark's cunning diplomacy, Russia and France allied, keeping this balance in place until 1914.
And the balance of power still showed in WWI, both alliances slugged it out without ever gaining an advantage over one another for 4 years, with the Central powers only folding to complete exhaustion.
World War II is more simple to explain, it was worldwide effort to stop Germany's rapid conquests and the Fascist vision for Europe that was almost universally rejected outside of Germany, Italy, Spain, and a few Balkan nations.

What does that even mean? How is preventing a swift German victory in the early weeks which would have allowed them to fully focus on Russia not an advantage? How is managing to knock out Russia out of the war later on not an advantage? How is completely exhausting your enemy not an advantage?

The Schlieffen Plan was foiled, but that just removed Germany's hope for an advantage, and led to the bogged down trench warfare.
Russia was knocked out of the war after 3 years, but even then it didn't get the stage for German victory, as the Fronts around Italy and France solidified enough that Germany was unable to defeat their foes even with the second front now closed off.
The only thing that probably counts for an advantage was that the allies simply had more soldiers and bullets at their disposal, When Germany lost, they didn't lose to being outwitted or outflanked, they lost because they ran out of food, soldiers, and bullets. That's not an advantageous victory for the allies, that was a victory brought by pure attrition even to the final day.

And numbers were skewed in favour of German Empire.
They've had bigger army than both French and British by the beginning of WW1 together.
In fact the demographics were also better than in France where they've had to deal with demographic crisis ever since late 1860's.
