can we predict anything interesting from knowing the starch staple of a culture

you'll probably get more interesting information from protein staple.

Fish vs domesticated, etc.

Much of the population in the North China plain grew wheat, also intensive agriculture of any sort requires a great deal of cooperation between the population. This meme might not be all that relevant.

Maybe some crops were less reliable than others, more difficult to store for long periods, more prone to drought, resulting in more famines. Some crops like olives require years to grow or large investments in infrastructure, which has to be protected, possibly changing the attitudes of the population making them favor peace and security. This may have been significant. Maybe some crops were deficient in certain nutrients, though this is probably not as important.

There certainly was a big difference between pastoralists and farmers. The risk of cattle raids and being constantly on the move probably meant peasants were more difficult to control.

if it's some measure based on caloric intake, then pork is relatively high in body-fat so more calorie dense.
it's conceivable that some of the countries may have a very varied diet as far as types of protein consumed goes, but still get the plurality of their protein derived calories from pork.
>>
>>798961
Papua new guinea would be pork too.
>>
>>798961
Surprised denmark isn't pork, but beef since they're so famous for pork.

Famous for pork in neighbouring countries where pork is eaten though so maybe not that strange.

Africa far too generalized.

It's ignoring the agricultural systems of most of the continent and the seasonality of particular regions. They didn't even correctly show the Horn.
