HBO comes to you to direct a historical drama akin to Rome.

What event do you choose?

I'd choose World War 1. The first season would be the years leading up to the war with the finale being the declaration of war.
>>
The first crusade would be dank
>>
The Peloponnesian War
>>
>>711118
Would probably be easier to do than WW1 since Peloponnesian War has more "main characters." WW1 would have a new cast nearly every episode.

Vlad III Dracula's rise and fall. His capture by the Ottoman Turks and subsequent upbringing as a hostage in the evil empire, showing how he becomes twisted, while his brother Radu becomes a fuccboi for the sultan and eventually is the one to bring down Dracula in combat.

Cortez conquest of the Aztecs

>Action (native v Spanish, native vs native, Spanish v Spanish [Cuban governor sends a force to arrest Cortez])
>Lots of sex, Cortez was fucking his native interpreter regularly
>strong female character (Cortez interpreter mistress becomes an estate owners in New Spain)
>exotic world
>shock (human sacrifice, Spanish sacking city)
>politics (Montezuma being told the gods have returned, getting imprisoned and killed, La Noche Triste)
>>
>>711297
Was about to post this.

Why did Dante always dress in his pajamas?

The sacking of Constantinople, with the Ottomans as protagonists.

They (not HBO) did a similar series on Suleiman the Great, and it was really popular in the Balkans.
>>
>>711297

sounds good to me

>>711082

Rome 2: Constantinople, and set it during Justinian's reign.
>>
>>711082
Would watch that.
>>
>>711082

The Wars of the Roses deserves better than The White Queen and The Hollow Crown. Undoubtedly it'd be billed as "THE REAL Game of Thrones" just like all the others though.
>>
>>711360
>and it was really popular in the Balkans.
Well, it was really well made. Also love plot was liked by housewives.
>>
>>711082
Efforts to reform China in the late 20th century, concluding with its defeat in the first Sino-Japanese war. Season two would be focused on Chiang-kai shek first gaining power after Yat-sen's death, then tying to deal with the Communists and administration, concluding with the agreement of the second united front.
>>
A non Bollywood version of the life of ashoka the great. Dude's life was practically a redemption arc.
>>
>>711553
>Also love plot was liked by housewives.
Take note. You gotta get them housewives hot and bothered if you want your show to survive past a single season.
>>
>>711082
realistically, you could just keep on going through the empire
>>711118
this would be good
so would:
>rameses the great vs the hittites
>the persian war
>pericles' athens
>alexander's conquests
>the gracchi
>the punic wars
>marius & sulla

and that's just a few minutes of thought. history's got some crazy motherfucking stories and people.
>>
A movie about the Second Punic War and its buildup, from the perspective of the Carthaginians.

I would put special focus on Massinissa's betrayal and the tragedy that Carthage was caught in, all the while portraying all parties involved as morally neutral and interest-driven.

I would also secure buttmad from the kangz by casting Berber actors for the Numidians and Arabs for the Carthaginians.

Adaptation of Parallel Lives, but as a comedy.

The far eastern front of the Russian Civil War.

Because the main character was basically a blend of Rob Stark and Melisandre.

30 year war. It will be like Marco Polo but actual good. Intrigues and suffering all over the place.

Season 1 will make Gustavus Adolphus seem like a really good guy and end it with him dying. Season 2 will end with the Westphalian peace.
>>
>>711082
There are rumors about an HBO show about Jagiellonian dynasty. Sounds stupid.

Anyway I'd rather see WWII behind the scenes. Political scheming with all ugly details.

Some show based on a period in Danish history, just so that the main character is played by Mads Mikkelsen

The Life of Charles XII.

Aaaw fuck yeah bud

This is what I want to see on national television. Austrian barons fucking shit up in Mongolia for no reasons other than pure madness and holy wrath on the Reds.

This could easily be a Rome 2.0
>>
U.S. Civil War, focusing on the White House, War Department, and generals in the field.

Major protagonists: Lincoln, Halleck, Stanton, McClellan, Grant, Sherman, Pinkerton, Burnside. McClellan and Pinkerton giving away to Thomas and Sheridan.

Comic relief with Mrs. Lincoln. Exposition from the press. Antagonists: the south, Congress. About a year per season.
>>
Byzantine and Sassanid political life along with depictions of major battles during the Byzantine-Sassanid War. Final season is the Muslim invasion, with the final episode having Heraclius' death.
>>
Wouldn't survive but I like the notion of the Greek Heroic Age being the series, with each generation/period being a season.

Season 1 - Perseus and more of the Gods origins, olympians vs Titans and shit.

Season 2 - Argonauts and Heracles.

Season 3 - Oedipus and Seven Against Thebes.

Season 4/5 - Trojan war.

Thing is Season 1 and 3 would pale in comparison to 2 and 4/5, and the Trojan war and related stuff could be its own show. So you'd be better of doing either Argonauts & heracles' period or Trojan war period.

Other options:

1st Crusade from Latin, Greek and Turkic/Arab eyes.
>>
None, Rome is pornographic trash that caters to masculine fantasies rather than conveying history. History can ofc by pornography, but they make it excessive to point that it's like how Tarantino is with vulgar language. Ugh.

My. Motherfucking. Nigga.

As for Alexander, why? Oliver Stone did a great film, but a series wouldn't be quite adequate. You know what WOULD be kickass as a series?

The Diadochi. Think about it.
