Than the Republic of South Africa or than the Free State of Orange?
I can dig the new flag, its original, I don't know maybe I just have a bias because of how shitty South Africa is.
>>60812
IMO the 1928-1994 would be a decent tricolor without the flags which ruin it, and the Orange Free State flag is an eyesore. The new one isn't that great, but its nice enough.
>>60860
The problem is the tricolor is just the Dutch flag, It'd be like America using some historic English flag.
It might be nice with an emblem or something in the middle

I'm guessing the reason you think what you think is because the German far right has adopted the flag as they can't go around with Swastikas held high. The whole exercise is insulting to both Prussia, which was just a classic central European absolute monarchy and the original Nazis who would loathe being associated with what they would've perceived to be an outdated form of government.

Are you a vexillologist? I'm not that informed on what makes a good flag. My nothing country, New Zealand is having a referendum on a new flag and frankly, our choices are just terrible.
Have a Texas monarchy flag I use in Victoria 2
>>62486
Pretty bad ass. Did you make it?
Do you think the referendum will pass? They all sort of look like company logos more than flags.
>>62548
No, I didn't. I wish I was that skilled. I made this somewhat lazy Japanese fascist flag using the Taisei Yokusankai logo. It looks pretty anime.
As for the referendum. I doubt it will, the majority of people share a similar opinion on the designs. Unlike Australia, our history doesn't have a great design like the Eureka Flag to use when we eventually become a republic.
>>62625
What is the significance of the leaf thing all the flags have?
>>62548
I have to wonder if modern society makes it hard to create a new flag for a first world state that looks 'right'
Most of the generic options with good colours (tricolour, crosses, etc) have been taken already, and more distinct national symbolism is harder to use when most first world countries want to emphasize they are 'multicultural'.
Like with all the NZ flag options, they're bound to try and include some Maori symbolism, but it ends up feeling washed out and inoffensive - like a corporate logo - instead of as a symbol of a country.
Thank goodness for Quebec and Scotland already having old flags they want to use if they leave their parent states.
>>62692
Oh, it's a silver fern, a native plant used a lot as a symbol for New Zealand sport teams and such. It's not great on a flag.
I'm pretty fond of the United Tribes flag that served as the country's first flag. But apparently it NEEDS the fern on it. I also wonder how many people actually know of the flag.
Heck the argument for the change is that it's so similar to Australia's; but nobody seems to be aware we got our flag before they did.
>>62759
The short list was even worse.
>>62759
Yeah its hard, when traditional Western symbols are seen as offensive. And incorporate minority groups into a national flag. You have to try and make it inclusive.
>>62803
That United Tribes of New Zealand isn't that bad.
Yeah it doesn't have the traditional NZ Southern Cross on it. But there is sort of a Southern Cross deign going on there.
It has history to it, it uses the Anglo colors, the cross of St. George, and it was used by the Maori so you have that.
It's better than the alternatives at least.

Bad idea, the Dutch national socialists tainted that flag forever when they started using it.
>>64193
That flag looks slightly better, I wonder why they changed it. Wiki says the lighter tricolor was the Russian SFSR flag in 1991, and then the national flag from 1991 - 1993, before going back to the darker color.
Also pic
New Zealand
>>64291
I think it's more than just slightly better. It actually looks nice, inspiring and even though I fucking hate Russians I think it's a really good one.
The current one is as if someone tried to MSPaint the old one. I think the change may have happened due to President and Supreme Council clashes in 1993 but that's illogical since Supreme Council defenders generally used commie flags (and some Russian Imperial ones).
>>64251
So?
I hate when retards want to throw out shit just because some group they didn't like used the symbol. Like faggots who get triggered by seeing the Prussian or Imperial German flags.
The National Socialist Dutch Workers Party lasted all of 10 years, were irrelevant for most of it and didn't do anything other than collaborate the Nazis who were basically going to be in charge anyway.
Besides the Dutch National Socialist had their own flag.

The guy on horseback is from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
It's too bad Lithuania has some gay tricolor now.
>>64865
Belarus was a part of Lithuanian Duchy for a long time so the symbols are partially theirs too. Plus the emblem is different from Lithuanian one, and the cross is Orthodox.
>>64898
It's the official Coat of arms of Lithuania, the cross is the Cross of Lorraine.
The Free French also used the cross.
An Orthodox cross usually has three crossbeams.
>>64995
Yes, Vytis is the official Coat of Arms of Lithuania. Another version of it, called Pahonia, is a Belarusian symbol. As you can see, they're different enough.
The cross on Belarusian one is this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Saint_Euphrosyne

>>60591
Would've been much better than the tricolour. Too bad black-white-red are completely discredited as national colors these days.
A mix of the two schemes like early Weimar war flag could've been interesting.
>>65970
I'm really not impressed with it, it looks like they just tried to mash two different flags together. I doubt there was like an actual vote but goddamn, they couldn't have done something better? >>64704
I would've liked something like that honestly, just change the wreath to have six stars in it instead of 9.
My favorite is the solid red with just the pine tree in the corner.
This is a combination of the brazilian flag with the symbol of the Integralist Movement, a brazilian fascist political party.
The sigma on the flag was supposed to represent the sum of good social values. The official party slute was "anauê", which is an indigenous word that means something like "you are my brother". Very fascist indeed.
>>60742

Brazil is named after Brazilwood. It could have a flag like Lebanon with a tree in the middle. Also the tree was important for the red dye, and red would be a much better color.
>>60746
Something about Armenia's flag makes so excited. I think it's because Red, Blue and Yellow were the original pokemon games.
>>66265
Homegrown fascist symbols are so endearing, like the British lightning bolt or the Romanian hashtag.
>>66495
>red flags
Barf, no please. Also, are you implying that any flag ever deserves to look like Lebanon's unwiped anus of a flag?
Probably the worst tricolour ever, the flag of the Governorate of Estonia, the government of northern Estonia when it was still part of the Russian Empire.
>>66550
Yep, symbology has a lure that can be hard to explain at times. Fascism has that power. I could argue that's about one of the only things they got right: how to make a symbol that people can easily love and identify themselves with.
The whole "we're part of a greater thing and we will work together toward something better" is also very powerful.
Not sure why, but i always loved Hong Kong's flag
>>66550
>like the British lightning bolt
I don't know, as a Briton myself I never found it very appealing. It just doesn't seem like a very "british" symbol to me, although it does look nice. It seems more like the type of emblem you'd put on the flag of a military group or something, though.
The monarchy is more of a symbol of Britishness than anything else really, it's the reason the country even exists in the first place after all, and the British Fascists were generally pro-monarchy, so keeping the Union Flag as a fascist British flag seems more sensible to me.
>>61201
Aren't the Beehive and Horn Guy heavily Mormon, and thus religious, symbols, though? Seems odd for a Communist state to use such religious symbols.
>>62288
10/10 desu.
>>63633
>no Oregon
DOUBLE-SIDED
>>67108
The bolt was ugly, they should have looked for some Angle or Saxon-English symbol. Or a British-Roman one.
>>67199
That's because you assume a Communist state must be like a Soviet one and anti-church.
From the Mormon Encyclopedia on the Beehive "It is a significant representation of the industry, harmony, order and frugality of the people, and of the sweet results of their toil, union and intelligent cooperation."
Working together during this early period, individuals contributed specialized talents and skills for building an integrated and well-planned community in a hostile environment. Community, not individuality, created this persistent symbol."
The idea being everyone working together for the benefit of the hive as a whole. Showing they were all equal before the eyes of God, and that no man was above the other. A secular Communist flag would probably be a boring red flag with the typical iconography most Communist flags don't have any national symbolism to them.
I guess I could have removed the angel and put a more traditional communist symbol, but I also though, what-if the Soviets weren't the first Communist state, what the country still have the sickle and hammer. Also I usually play as the California Republic in Victoria II, so the red star isn't associated with Communism in North America.

>>66726
THANKS DOC!
>>68308
Why though? It was a stunning example of modernist stuff when it was first adopted but that also was the main problem of it: it's a thing stuck in its own time unlike any classic coats of arms that just work no matter the period.
My home region. Always liked it; wish we flew it more. Better yet I wish that Massachusetts would drop our current flag and adopt the New England flag as our standard.

be interesting to see a Deseret nationalist movement that foregoes the Mormon aspects and just adopts the name for the sake of separatism, wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.
If it was handled right, it wouldn't even be that bad, they'd just have to make the coastal parts autonomous and maybe grant Las Vegas a city-state kind of status (kinda like Macao?) and most the rest of the people would probably be happy.
This is the flag of the Duchy of Carniola. I've posted it before, but this flag has a lot of significance to me.
The colors white, blue and red are the national colors of the Slovenes and become such with this very flag. In the coat of arms is the Carniolan eagle with the crown, as is tradition for a flag of a duchy. The shield behind it is gold - it was silver up to the 14th century, but the privilege of having it gold was given to the Carniolans by the then Emperor Frederic III.
