It's the kettle helm because it covers the neck and temples while still allowing for peripheral vision and hearing. The wide brim also helps deflect projectiles.

>Wearing a bevor with a kettle helm

All of the disadvantages of a Salet and none of the advantages! What a score!
>>
>>603913
Try looking down in one.
>>
>>602894
That's exactly what it is, actually. The uncanny resemblance was taken from the kettle helm without doubt.
>>
>>605686
you have better vision tho
>>
>>605697
Only marginally since you just eliminated your ability to look down. Maybe like an extra few degrees on the side, definitely worth not protecting your eyes and nose!

The advantage of the kettle helm was first and foremost totally unrestricted breathing, and then totally unrestricted vision. Vision restrictions in closed helms tend to be restrictions to your vertical field of vision; wearing a bevor with a kettle helm totally eliminates the first advantage and gets rid of most of the second.
>>
>>602578
That's purely ceremonial
We should concentrate on actual battle use helms
>>
>>605715

Citation needed
>>
>>605726
The “face” of this magnificent helmet is one of the most instantly recognizable faces in medieval history and particularly British history. This is a ceremonial helmet that was found in the remains of a burial ship, most likely the tomb of an Anglo-Saxon king, dating from the late 6th or early 7th centuries CE. The hoard was found in the fields of Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, in Suffolk, UK in 1939. The treasure there–which included weapons, jewelry, dishes and textiles–is not only priceless in monetary value but also in its ability to tell us about life in England of the “Dark Ages.” The helmet pictured above is the crown jewel in the Sutton Hoo hoard.

Technically, that's not an armet but a closed helmet.

The difference between an armet and a closed helmet is the opening mechanism. Armets are opened sideways, while closed helmets are hinged at the visor.

Pic related, an armet. However, historically, the definition hasn't been that strict, so in sources you might actually find such a helmet described as armet.

My personal list

Ancient: Imperial Gallic G, with the Thracian helmet coming in as a close contender

Medieval: Sallet helmets with the the seperate piece covering the jaw

Early Modern: Zischagge (like Polish Winged Hussars would use) and though they're not helmets, Napoleonic era shakos

Modern: Stahlhelm M1935

If you wish to know why WWI became the complete and total fuckstory that it did, I suggest you read up on the Maxim Gun. Archaic body armor is no different but with the added bonus that some of these pieces have artistic merit on their own.

Now don't you have doors to knock on for Bernie Sanders?
