Why does Northern Ireland exist? Seems like it would make more sense for the whole country to be united since it is in fact an island.

Why do countries exist? Seems like it would make more sense for all of humanity to be united since Earth is in fact an island in space.

not yet buddy a few things need to be taken care off

I agree with you. The U.K. should just control the whole thing.

NI is:
99 percent white
Far right wing
No feminists
No SJWs
allowed guns and open carry permits
Proud of their cultural
Patriotic
no gay marriage or abortion
everyone is religious
best primary school education in Europe
Ireland:
filled with feminists
bringing in loads of non whites
not allowed to be patriotic
not allowed guns
legalised gay marriage and abortion
not religious

Considering NI was a terrorist filled shithole for years and is now one of the poorest parts of the U.K. and Ireland has one of the highest HDIs and standard of livings in the world I wouldn't be quick to praise one over the other because one is more traditional
>>
Becuase the people there are mostly Protestant and would rather stay in the UK. Contrary to what micks would have you believe, only a few people there want unification with the rest of Ireland.
>>

>99 percent white

99% white and 50% Irish? I dont think so

>Far right wing
>No feminists
>No SJWs
>allowed guns and open carry permits

No

>Proud of their cultural

Which is what, bonfires and heroin?

>Patriotic

Far more patriotic about England than the English, which is quite pathetic since they are Scottish

>no gay marriage or abortion

Yet full of repressed gays living double lives and getting married, really good stuff there

>everyone is religious

Pretty sure only nutjobs are, born again christains who believe in creationism is also not good

>best primary school education in Europe

See above

>not allowed to be patriotic

Its 100 years since the 1916 rising and its literally all thats going to be discussed for the next year.

Because for the most part it's populated by Scottish and Northern English settlers (often referred to as Ulster-Scots) who identify as British rather than Irish, a largely religious island still; the protestant north would rather stay with the United Kingdom than be subject to the devoutly Catholic Republic of Ireland.

All those Yanks and Micks who claim that Ireland should have the territory because they were the majority a few hundred years ago, are usually the same lot who will be the first to denounce Israel and support Palestine despite the fact that in this case the Israelis would have the same historical claim as the Republic of Ireland
>>
>>596939

25% is the number who actively vote for Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland (50% or less turnout in elections though) , and probably 99% of people in the Republic of Ireland want it, so thats pretty much a clear majority.

http://www.irishtimes.com/news/catholic-majority-in-northern-ireland-to-present-dilemma-for-britain-and-republic-1.438788

>Figures from Northern Ireland’s Department of Education for 2010/11 show 120,415 Protestants and 163,693 Catholics in the North’s schools.
>>
>>596961

Do you know what ad hominem means?
>>
>>596971
Fuck off taig your "republic" is a rogue state it belongs to the British Empire.
>>
>>596977

Thats an ad hominem
>>
>>596969
Many of Northern Ireland's 'protestants' are non-practicing and the Protestant church is split into multiple denominations, whilst the Catholics in Ulster are more militant and devout in their support due to their minority status, while those who identify with neither catholicsm or protestant are more likely to support the status quo than joining the Republic of Ireland owing to their more socially conservative status, cultural and family ties, as well as the better performing British economy.

the 1973 referendum also exists.

>>596977
>Implying we want them back
>>
>>596982
Which was my point. You shot the first ad hominem by seeing repressed gays.
>>
>>596958
Well, probably 99% of people in the United States would support annexing the isle in its entirety as the 51st state. Compare our 320 million to your 6 million, that's pretty much a clear majority.
>>
>>596991
>Many of Northern Ireland's 'protestants' are non-practicing

Simply not true. Everyone I know goes to church here.
>>
>>596991

>due to their minority status

But they are the majority from this year onwards
>>
>>596998
Nope.

Republicans are still the minirotity. Catholics might be the majority but most of them are unionists.
>>
>>596992

I've seen and met loads of obviously gay people in northern ireland who are married and have kids and everybody is in denial about their gayness despite being blatant flaming queers, its only an ad hominem if you are one yourself or your dad is.
>>
>>596998
I should mention your source is the Irish times, a paper based in the Republic of Ireland, and that 57.6% Catholic figure is radically different from the census result only 1 year earlier with the country classed as only 40.8% Catholic
>>
>>596998
>But they are the majority from this year onwards

Catholicism =/= Republicanism

You can be a protestant republican, or a catholic unionist you know

57.6% of school children are Catholic and Catholics are the majority in every age group below 40-44, so obviously Irish Catholics will be the majority very soon and will likely climb to 65% of the population in some time, and then inevitably vote for unification since only about 2% of Catholics vote for actual Unionist parties since those politicans are heavily involved in the Orange Order which is KKK style anti-Catholic organisation.

There is pretty much no scenario where Irish unification wont happen, the predictable resurgence of Unionist terrorist violence against Catholics due to the unstoppable demographic shift will only speed the process up.
>>
>>597074
Won't ever happen because most of the catholics are benefit scroungers who wouldn't vote for a united ireland because the Queen pays them to exist.

Are you retarded? It was drawn according to the six majority protestant counties in Ireland...

Are they going to redraw it now since only 2 of those 6 still have a Protestant majority? It would probably solve the whole thing.

Most catholics I know are pretty passive about it these days and just want to keep the status quo, I would even go so far to say if anything they lean towards the UK.

How do you define a "republican"?
And anyway how is some anecdote evidence of truth, a couple of people said something so everybody feels the same way? If I was a "republican" or anything else I would not tell somebody I was when there is a high chance they would get offended. Would a racist actually tell black people they are racist, etc?

Telling someone you're a unionist/nationalist really isn't a point of conflict outside of places like the Shankill Road, contrary to what some would have you believe.

I get that my one experience clearly doesn't represent the entire country, but most people who actually look into the whole issue would see that it's just logical to stay in the UK

This bit isn't very contentious. There has always been very strong cultural and ethnic exchange between Ulster and western Scotland. It's not all a product of the Ulster Plantation.
