Was it:
a) Gorbachev (glasnost/perestroika)

b) Internal structural issues (negative demographic trends like a decline in pop growth, life expectancy declining, increase in alcoholism)

c) The U.S and Reagan (through increase in military and the SDI shenanigans)

I reckon it was Gorbo giving the individual free speech and ability to criticize the government. Communism doesn't work unless everybody believes (or pretends to) in the system

Also, Gorbo gave the satellite nations free elections or some shit

standard crisis in the reproduction of capitalism, exemplified by old capital stock written down at a loss, and the nomenklatura shifting into a traditional bourgeoisie through primary accumulation of worker's rights.

It was Krutchev in 1956.

You mean when he failed to run a revolutionary line in response to Poland and Hungary?

It was literally a mashup of all three.

It was meant to be. Communism just does not work in the long term.

Hard to know since there has never been any communist societies.

Also, that fucking definition is so vague it could be applied to anything, do you think we'd have capitalism if none believed in private property? That we'd have monarchies if everyone considered republics the absolute best design for a head of state?

Russian GNP is very close to its Soviet peak even without all of their former extra-Russian territories and satellite states. It's very convenient that chart stops in 1992. Please stop being completely intellectually dishonest.

Unified capitalist Germany is currently ranked higher than either, please stop being completely intellectually dishonest.

from your source

>Nearly two decades after the unification of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), Germans in the east and the west continue to express positive opinions about their country’s reunification, and a solid majority of east Germans say they are better off as a result of unification.

He's not wrong, though.

One of the biggest issues in the PRC as well, was Mao trying to give people some basic free speech. It's a strong under current among societies trying to follow Marx's teachings.

>>
>>62384
I should clarify.

If half the people don't want to share in a communist state or they believe that that they don't have to without fearing consequences, it's just going to cave in.

If everybody wants to share and believes in their leaders (or pretends to under fear), citizens aren't going to speak out and call for change. They are just going to go along with it.
>>
>>62994
Perfectly captures this thread.

Also, we have derailed from the original topic due to graphic-philes.

So why did the USSR fracture?
>>
>>63315
Gorbo was dumb and let people have free speech and independent thought.

Communism (even though I despise the concept) will only work under a totalitarian frame
>>
>>63355
I dont know what ass-end of the internet i read that, but i thought a part to that weakening was driven by sudden cheapening of gas prices before the ussr fell. Is there any truth to that claim, or is this just someone trying to appropriate todays events with yesterday?

The collpase of the Soviet Union was inevitable. Socialism and central planning are inherently faulty
