Standing orders for the army in the Peninsula and in the Waterloo campaign stated categorically “Umbrellas will not be opened in the presence of the enemy."

I seriously get butthurt whenever someone mentions "general winter".

>le napolelon and le Hitlel le retreated because they were cold le russian army didnt do anything :DDDxDD

Yeah sure attrition is a thing, but the whole army packing up and going because "it was really cold and they weren't prepared :(" isn't fucking true.

And how people say that the German fuel froze in the Russian winter. But for some reason the Russian tank fuel magically was immune.

Well done, 8/10 mad, I urgently need a proctologist.

>And how people say that the German fuel froze in the Russian winter. But for some reason the Russian tank fuel magically was immune.
If I recall correctly the germans used gasoline while the russians used diesel, so that might be a cause.
>>

It's a burger meme to discredit Russians for winning anything

And I say this as a guy who acknowledges the Russian army under Tsar Alexander was pretty indentured serf tier

la grande armée won literally every single engagement in russian soil - and even after being in tatters and retreating back to france, the russian "army" wasn't ever able to attack them and destroy them once and for all...
the only thing there were good at was at attacking the stragglers and ambushing the french every now and then with light cavalry and the cossacks madmen

so yeah, the russian army was always one of the worst army in the world - only comparable to the turkish/ottoman and the iraqi army.

To be fair, the biggest enemy of the Grande Armee was neither the cold nor the Russian army
It was starvation.
The Russian army may have been shit in battle, but they sure as hell were good at destoying their own cities, thus denying the French any food

After defeating Napoleon, Wellington seduced not one but two of the Emperor’s former girlfriends. He also made friends with Bonaparte's sister, bought her a house and hung a saucy picture of her on his bedroom wall.

The two mistresses were Josephina Grassini, a beautiful opera singer, and Josephine Weimer, an actress, both of whom had been Napoleon’s mistresses several years before Waterloo. He treated the latter very well, once pushing forty thousand francs down her cleavage (as historian Andrew Roberts points out, 'presumably in notes'). Weimer compared the Iron Duke and the Petit Corporal in bed, saying that 'Monsieur le Duc etait de beaucoup plus fort' ('The duke was much the stronger').

Seducing Napoleon's lovers was all part of a victory campaign by Wellington – he even hired Napoleon's cook, despite the fact that according to contemporaries he could scarcely tell rancid butter from fresh. After the wars ended, Wellington was presented with Napoleon's sword, three paintings of Napoleon, and the aforementioned painting of his sister, Pauline Borghese, showing her nipples clearly.

In perhaps the ultimate humiliation, Napoleon had commissioned an eleven-foot statue of himself as Mars, the god of war, naked except for a figleaf and a cloak. In 1816 the British government bought it and presented it to Wellington, who put it at the bottom of his stairs in Apsley House at Hyde Park Corner in London. It stands there to this day.

>Ney why didn't you take Quatre-Bras?

Holy fuck, poor Wellesley. He spent his whole life in the shadow of Bonaparte.
Why are the britons so obsessed ?

holy shit what a fucking autist
>>

Starvation, yes, and also the typhus.

When Napoleon entered in Moscow, he had lost 3 quarters of his huge army due to diseases and lack of food. So General Winter doesn't deserve as much credit.

How is any of this humiliation? Have you ever been to Apsley House? The whole place is wallpapered in portraits of Napoleon. Wellington put a fucking giant naked statue of Napoleon right in the middle of his home. He obviously had a severe homoerotic obsession with Napoleon and wanted to be him.

No one defeated napoleon its all le eternal anglo lies he was a good boy he dindu nuffin wrong ever
>>
Nobody defeated Napoleon. The only battles he ever lost were against numerically vastly superior armies from several countries at once led by several generals.

This is like posting random Roman senators and claiming they defeated Caesar in single combat.

>Nobody defeated the Nazis. The only wars they ever lost were against numerically vastly superior armies from several countries at once led by several generals.
>>
>>578565
Correct. Which is why it would be retarded to post a picture of Churchill claiming he defeated the Nazis.

Is he the best legitimate Habsburg general?

General Winter also defeated Napoleon. And Hitler. Only the Mongols defeated General Winter.

General that was a Habsburg and not a bastard. Don John of Austria is probably the best Habsburg general.

Rudolf I was an excellent general too, to be honest.

i never said it was the cold itself - it was the winter, cold was just one of the elements.
don't forget russia had a meagre economy and pretty much during every winter they had mass famines... needless to say that razing and plundering your own towns will only aggravate this factor, specially for non-native troops.
