What are some /his/ anime and manga? The two big one's that pop up in my head are Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Master Keaton. Have we made a /his/ list for weebshit, yet?
Chang Ge Xing is great, if you are into Pre-modern China.

Here's a couple off the top of my head.
Kino no Tabi
Cat Shit One
Otoyomegatari
Thermae Romae
Vinland Saga

Cat shit 1?

Also known by the hilariously awful name of "Apocalypse Meow".
Fucking localization companies.
>>575599
Barefoot Gen

Yeah, and there's also an almost unrelated animated film set in the middle east after Desert Storm. The movie isn't very /his/ but it's operator as FUCK.
>>575599
I'm currently working my way through Vinland Saga and it's pretty fucking sweet.
some that I thought of:
Billy Bat
mononoke
shigurui
20th century boys (at least the childhood part)
Drifting life
>>575625
Kino is pretty damn good.
The shitty low budget early 2000's digital colouring, and potato character designs grows on you after a while.
Gotta read the LN for the full experience though.
I recently read through all of Historie in one sitting. It's about the life of Eumenes and features pretty much anyone of importance in Greece during that period. A lot of it is obviously made up but it's still a very enticing read, right now the latest chapters are halfway through the battle of Chaeronea.
Hyouge Mono was pretty fun

Don't do it. Before fate you read about historical figures because they're cool and interesting. After fate you're just trying to find the best stats in case you get called into a holy grail war.
>>575727
>and potato character designs
Hey! They weren't that bad.
>>576711
>>576713
There are none. Anime is inherently shit.
>>575746
Historie is pretty good, too bad the publishing pace has been glacial lately, and despite the slow releases the art is still very sketchy at times for whatever reason. Does Iwaaki not have any assistants, or is he working on several different projects? Or is he sick or something?
Also not too fond of the twist involving Alexander, but I'm willing to wait and see where he's going with it.
>>575849
Personally, I really enjoy the changes of theme in Vinland Saga, it's amusing to see all the people who still complain about the end of murders.
>>576984
I haven't made it that far, yet. I'm actually really enjoying it and I don't think I'd mind.

Get the fuck out, pedo.
If you don't mind severe anachronisms and actually already know Japanese history, Sengoku Basara's pretty good.
Kenshin and Kasuga best Basara, Date and his motorhorse a overrated
I want to marry Lady Oscar.
Can't believe that people haven't suggested this gem yet. Souten Kouro is one of the few manga/anime that actually treats Cao Cao as protag and not antagonist.

Japs massacred as many vietnamese as western powers. Killing Vietnamese people was in style from 45 to 80 or so.
Zipang
It's not really what I would call /his/ but Yuuki Yuuna has a ton of allegories to Imperial Japan and WWII once you get past all the >school >slice of life stuff.
There's a reason the main girl has cherry blossoms as her theme.
>>575716
Urasawa's mangas are great, but not really hystorical. Definitely worth the read though.
Currently reading ad astra and it's kinda shit. Historie is good
>>578748
Did you even read the whole thing? The panel right after points out that the Japs were just as bad

Lol, they didn't even flinch about copying the concept from Maus.

Tokyo Wars, an old manga where the Soviet Union invades Japan and then gets their shit stomped hilariously.
It contains such spectacles as:
>LAWs frontally penetrating T-80Us
>VDV losing to smaller amounts of japanese reservists
>VDV gunning down their own major and then attempting to surrender to said reservists, before themselves getting executed
>Soviets killing reporters/civillians left and right
>Su-27s getting completely shat on by F-2s, the Japanese lose only one aircraft in the entire war, and it's from BVR
>Japanese sub gets hit by more than 6 depth charges; still sinks Kuznetsov and it's entire escort
>Old Recoilless rifle hits T-80U on the front turret an penetrates the K5
>Light infantry shitting on entire battalions of Soviet mech/tank forces
>Entire thing is in moonrunes with no known English translation
But it's got pretty sweet art so there's that
Arslan Senki isn't really historical but the setting is something I think /his/ can appreciate.

>A certain person said, "In the Saint's mausoleum there is a poem that goes :
>"If in one's heart
>He follows the path of sincerity,
>Though he does not pray
>Will not the gods protect him?"
>What is this path of sincerity?"
>A man answered him by saying, ''You seem to like poetry. I will answer you with a poem.
>As everything in this world is but a sham, >Death is the only sincerity.
>It is said that becoming as a dead man in one's daily living is the following of the path of sincerity."
>-Yamamoto Tsunetomo, The Hagakure
>"Now departure from the world of men is nothing to fear, if gods exist: because they would not involve you in any harm. If they do not exist, or if they have no care for humankind, then what is life to me in a world devoid of gods, or devoid of providence? But they do exist, and they do care for humankind: and they have put it absolutely in man's power to avoid falling into the true kinds of harm."
> —Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 2.11
>"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but...will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

I think he meant with reference to Maria only. Which is true. The animators of Maria put real research and travel time into developing the anime's set pieces, designs, and battles.
>>585226
Not really historically accurate, but then who gives a fuck so long as it's immensely enjoyable?
Akumetsu is a manga only tangentially related to history, but it's entertaining and political nonetheless. It's about this ubermensch who commits waves of murder-suicides of politicians in order to expose the corrupt underbelly of the Japanese government.
Area 88 for Cold War aircraft porn.
