Why was this guy hated by everyone? He had the same views as John Paul II and Francis. He was also a better theologian than both of them.
>>
He looks creepy.

The media unjustly blamed him for the sex scandals.
>>
>He had the same views as John Paul II and Francis
No, he criticizes the theology of liberation.

http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_19840806_theology-liberation_en.html

He was immediately replaced by a liberation theologian jesuit.
>>
>>499393
No, he was directly involved in cover ups during his earlier work.
>>
>>499383
something something darkside
>>
>>499393
All popes look creepy.
>>
>>499397
He actually wasn't, he was constantly working against the cover up, probably more than anyone else.
>>
>>499396

>Blase Bonpane, a former Maryknoll father and founding director of the Office of the Americas, said "The new pope has not been comfortable with liberation theology
>>
I did think it was rather remarkable that he had criticized the way JP2 had remained as pope when he had clearly become incapable of performing his duties due to old age, and then when he was pope he actually did resign when he felt he was no longer able to continue.

Anyway he was hated because many were hoping for a liberation minded pope to breathe new life into the church like Carlo Martini, former cardinal of Milan, yet we ended up with such a conservative theologian. Also his background of having fought for Germany in the hitler youth during ww2 did not help his image.

>implying Nazi youth means shit

It's summer camp with a nationalist theme.

>It's summer camp with a nationalist theme.

wow man, that really puts the whole shit in another perspective

"look man, he wasn't a nazi, he was just attending nazi summer camps where they train kids to think and act as nazis, so that when they grow up they'll be true nazis."

>He has the same views as Francis
Are you fucking kidding me?
>>
>>499383
His administration had the biggest paedo scandals plus he looks like Sheev Palpatine.
>>
>>500247
Even the hair
>>
>>500191
to be fair, at that point it wasn't his fault he was a innocent child dragged into a ideology due to the adults around him.
>>
>>500262
You think the general public cared?
>>
>>499383
He looks like Darth Sideous
He was in the Hitler Youth
He is german
Was blamed for the child abuse scandal

He was also too smart for journalists
>>
Did he really resign *willingly* or was there pressure from the church to become the scapegoat, the sacrificial lamb?
>>
He looked like Palpatine and had more conservative views. That's about it.

Yes, he was really learned in philosophy and had great lectures.
>>
>there are people on /his/ unaware that the Hitler Youth was a mandatory organization for German boys.
>>
>>499383
> Why was this guy hated by everyone?

Just a media spin because he was in the HY and is still German.
>>
Because he looked like Palpatine.

And the mainstream media hated him because he is actually a believer.

The Church has its code of morals. They have what they believe to be right and wrong. Sometimes, this is at odds with modern liberals (in cases such as abortion, divorce, sex outside of marriage and so on).

Changing what the Church believes, what Jesus has taught (in the case of divorce, for example) just to please atheist liberal reporters is not "breathing life in the Church". It is killing it. It is admitting you don't really believe in anything and it is all a popularity context.
>>
>>503627
Maybe the Church needs to die, then.
>>
>>503652
If you don't believe in Christianity, you may believe so.
If you do believe, of course not.

Being right is more important than appeasing liberal atheist elites.
>>
>>499383
What? He's adored by many. He was and still as a prominent European intellectual.
>>
>>499383
He was conservative and tried to revert some of Vatican II's heretical bullshits.
He even pardoned some sedevacantists clericals who excommunicated.
>>
>>501842
Apparently it was willingly, due to health concerns and such. But the public pressure didn't help.
>>
>>500191
The Hitler Youth had actually a very little lasting impact on the german youth post-ww2, HJ ideals were dropped pretty quickly
>>
>>499541
>kikes fucking up shit again

Fuck Agustin Bea and all those other crypto-rats.
>>
>>503684
*were excommunicated
>>
>>503688
If you look at videos of him a year before he retired, it was obvious he was too old and tired. He saw what happened with JP II and didn't want to be like him.

That said, there was this LGBT Mafia that did oppose him

http://www.ncregister.com/blog/edward-pentin/cardinal-danneels-part-of-mafia-club-opposed-to-benedict-xvi

>Cardinal Danneels Admits to Being Part of 'Mafia' Club Opposed to Benedict XVI

a) He looked Germanic, thus evil and menacing.
b) Hitlerjugend
c) Conservative, reactionary views
d) lack of charisma, leadership and capability to communicate and reach outto people
e) Le Star Wars Palpatine character
>>
>>499404
Nah Francis is adorbs and a bro
>>
>>503160
irrelevant to the question at hand, the fact that he was in the HY only further hurt his image because he was considered a reactionary when many were hoping for a reformer
>>
DUDE PALPATINE LMAO
>>
>>503763
>He looked Germanic
Actually he looks like an almost textbook Jew.
