Why does /his/ like military history so much?
Threads about history of warfare and strategy usually get dozens and hundreds of replies, while other historical topics rarely gain this kind of tract (exceptions exist of course).
You would think it was only WW2 and corresponding events that are popular, but also early modern, ancient and medieval warfare gets a lot of attention. Why is this the case in your opinion?

War is the ultimate expression of humanity's soul

Loads of documentation and a love of violence?

I forgot to mention, this isn't only about popularity. People here can discuss in detail the strategic plans of Austria in WW1, and the minutiae of conscript training in the Ottoman Empire, and what it were the daily lives of British soldiers in the 18th century and whatnot. Not that this stuff isn't interesting, but the imbalance in favor of those topics is curious.

You know how lorefags like to go on about the minutiae of the fictional universe in their favorite tv show/comic/etc.?

Its kind of like that with warfags

You could expand this to a question of why do humans have such a fascination with violence. I think there is some inborn instinct from more primeval days that makes us so enthralled.

The threat of life, culture, and beliefs being torn brings every person to their ends, which produces the most beautiful, epic, or ingenious actions, creations, or tactics.

Also violence.

I like both socio-cultural and military history. But fucking whenever I try to discuss the former, no one understands what I'm talking about or they regurgitate old myths.

War often marks significant turning points in history

Military history is the first kind of history people learn about, and it's more fun to look at pictures of cool war machines and shiny blades than it is to study the development of anthropogeographic systems over long time scales. Plus lots of badass stuff happens in wars. Did you see the new Star Wars movie? A stormtrooper almost beats a guy with a lightsaber in a duel. It's interesting stuff. Not to mention the fact that militaries are massively important historical bodies.
