The modern chicken was derived from the Red Junglefowl, of which domestication began 8,000 years ago in Southern China. Egg laying species have existed since the Cambrian Explosion 542 million years ago.

The answer to this question is clearly the Egg by several orders of magnitude.
>>
>>403369
The chicken's egg (which is the one the question relates to, not just random egg) came after the chicken
The first chicken as we know it hatched from a non-modern chicken agg laid by the specie just prior to modern chicken in the evolutionary line
>>
>>403587
But the first chicken hatched from an egg, so the egg was first
>>
According to evolution the egg came first because it was laid by an Almost chicken, the egg had a mutated animal inside it which was a chicken
>>
>>403613
It was an egg laid by the creature prior to modern chicken in the evolutionary line
The first modern chicken egg was laid by a grown modern chicken
>>
>>403623
Yes, but it was an almost-chicken's egg with a chicken in it, not a chicken's egg
>>
>>403625
Surely an egg containing a chicken is by default a chicken egg
>>
>>403631
Nope, since the mutation occured within the egg and not directly when the egg was conceived
>>
>>403628
and an almost chicken isnt a chicken so the egg came first
>>
>>403656
Nope
An almost-chiken's egg hatched a chicken, and the said chicken (first one) then laid the first chicken's egg once grown
>>
>>403661
Then the egg came first, you just said it. The full chicken was inside that egg.
>>
>>403690
It wasn't a chicken's egg but an almost-chicken's egg
The question refers specifically to chicken's egg, otherwise you can go full retard and claim dinosaurs eggs
>>
>>403699
An almost chicken's egg wouldn't produce a chicken, thus the egg was first
>>
In most cases there are no clear boundaries between species' ancestor and the species, when we look from evolutionary perspective, anons. The parents are slightly different from their offspring, the offspring itself has slightly different offspring and so on. In such a genealogical tree it's impossible to pinpoint where does one species end and the other begins. The question hasn't an answer, because it supposes false things.
>>
>>403369
The cock.
>>
>>403699
No that's just silly. A non chicken laid an egg which contained a full chicken. Thus the egg came first.

It's really not complicated.

Wouldn't the chicken and the egg exist simultaneously although the egg is discarded after hatching?

this, end of discussion

WE WUZ T-REXES AND SHIT

BAVI CONFIRMED

It's "chicken or the egg", not "chicken or egg-laid-by-chicken", because that question answers its own damn self.
Thus, the egg came first, though the question wasn't asked with evolution in mind, so we're all thinking way too hard about this.
>>
>>403369
also the egg is the first genetic manifestation of that particular individual
