No one serious is suggesting Hitler got his nonsense straight from Hegel, just that Hegel's Volksgeister shit played into the theories of racial spirits that Hitler eventually came to believe in.

And just FYI, Hegel wasn't that popular in Imperial Germany. The go-to philosopher in Germany throughout the 19th century was Kant (Hegel was actually very popular in British circles). As for National-Socialism, the closest thing they had to a Staatsphilosopher was Heidegger, who was needless to say rather distant from German Idealism.

To be fair Snyder makes a similar argument in his latest books. He calls Hitler a "racial anarchist" since for him the main unit of reference was not nations or states but races. That is not to say that he was anti-authoritarian or something of this sort, Snyder's use of the term is rather idiosyncratic.
This is however a far cry from this >>364422 disaster of a post.

Snyder argues (correctly tbqh) that Hitler was a "racial anarchist" who believed the state was a myth, a creation, a lie created by the Jews to prevent racial war, which was both natural and necessary.
Trying to paint Hitler as a German nationalist or a believer in government and states is wrong. He didn't care about state power, tried to destroy the state multiple times, eventually wound up controlling the state, and then put that power to use in destorying all the states around him.
He didn't fuck up Eastern Europe so that Germany could make it a province of Germany. He fucked it all up so that people could some day fight for the land without things like police and courts ruining nature.
Today, anti-statists try to use Hitler to suggest why states need to be reduced or removed, but State power was the only thing that slowed Hitler's anarchist policies down and eventually stopped him.
