I thought History Channel did a good job with "The World Wars". By no means as comprehensive as that British series in the 1970s but it was still very good.

I just finished this 10 part series after someone posted it EZTV last month. It's a true masterpeice that both the average pleb and tinfoil PHD's would equally enjoy.

Don't know of any documentaries, but there are two excellent podcasts on the Byzantine empire you can listen to on iTunes - one relatively short ("12 Byzantine Emperors") and one really in depth that is still being made, forget the name though.
