How do you guys deal with this?
>>
>>358642
It ain't easy
>>
>You will never wander the great unknown, not knowing what or who you might encounter in the next town
Probably death.
>You will never wonder what lies beyond the limits of the Roman empire
It's death.
>>

>imblying
There were plenty of travelers in the ancient world m8
>>
>>358642
Man, Brindisium was like in the ass-end of nowhere.
>>
>>358848
Yet none ever made it far beyond the borders of Rome.
>>
>>358891
Didn't Rome send a delegation to China? Travelers traded all along the Cina-India-Arabia-East Africa trade routes too.

You know, mods should really ban people for posting absolutely false claims.
>>
>>358848

And plenty more who ended up the belly of a wolf or with a pike a metre up their ass

>Didn't Rome send a delegation to China?

Literally the only place I've seen this was here, just once and without sources. From a dude who almost took for granted that "seres" meant chinese in the delegations of Augustus, without taking into account that evidence clearly shows that the chinese had a shitty knowledge even about the eastern part of the empire.

>Travelers traded all along the Cina-India-Arabia-East Africa trade routes too.

Trading products travel more than traders, that's the rule. The farthest point were we can say roman traders (not products) arrived is the malabar coast.

Still the point of >>358891 is bullshit.
>>
>>358642
There's still a lot to discover today and it's a much safer
>>
>>358920

What is there to discover? The insides of Chernobyl? And what else?
>>
>>359109
the ocean
>>
>>359155
FUCK the ocean man
The mere thought of those ultra-deep regions and the fucked up shit that could be swimming around down there gives me the creeps
>>
>>358897
No it didn't.

>>358909
The Erythraean Sea isn't far from Rome, it's literally just South from Egypt.
>>
>>358642

>You will never wander the great unknown, not knowing what or who you might encounter in the next town

you can literaly do that whenever you want
>>
>>359370
> South of Egypt
Given that in Roman times Egypt was concentrated on Nile Delta with a few rural cities along the Nile, Eritrea was very, very far away. You had to first travel few hundred kilometers of Sahara to the coast of Red Sea and then sail several weeks south following coasts with nothing but hostile population and desert.

Nowadays we know that monsters and myths and magical shit don't exist. It's not the same.

>satellites will never be able to take pictures of the past through science magic
>we will never have Google Earth of the past
>>
>>359444

then go travel trough mexico/egipt/russia on your own, magic and monsters arent real, what is there to fear, go visit central congo, go see afganistan, people literaly walk from there to here and nothing happens to them, right ?
>>
>>359487

They´ll just have to go far enough.
>>
>>358642
>How do you guys deal with this?
You can go backpacking or bicycle touring.

Rural areas in bumfuck nowhere aren't nearly notable enough to be well documented in any source but local oral history. You could even go to a far away rural area in your own country and discover new (to you) things.
>>
>>359505
Its not the same dude. Any idiot can go on the internet and read about shit in other countries. For a Roman, seeing something like an elephant for the first time would have been a total mindfuck.
>>
>>359487
just send a probe 2000 light years away from earth with a good enough lens that can take pictures with the same quality as google earth.
>>
>>359562
That bait isn't even good enough to get me to browse for a bait picture.

The Romans and Chinese knew about each other.

The Chinese sent a guy west. He made it to Mesopotamia before calling it good.

The Romans sent a guy east. He made it to the westernmost part of what is now Xianjing before calling it good.
