I'd go with the period of the religious wars in Europe during the 17th century, that left the country bankrupt. This was also combined with a huge inflation coming from the gold from the Indies and several famines and plagues that reduced Spain's population.
If by "become shit" you mean stopped having hegemonical power in Europe...
Spain during the Thirty Years War. The decisive moment was the battle of Rocroi in 1643, where Spain was defeated by France. From then on France dominated Europe.
That lasted until 1815 at Waterloo.

When they entered the thirty years war. This caused them to lose the eighty years war, the franco-spanish war of 1635-1659 (part of the 30 years war, but the french refused to stop their war with spain in westphalia). It was also one of the causes for several rebellions and projects of rebellion that included Portugal, Catalonia, Aragon and Andalucia (though only the first was succesful, the second also did a lot of harm in the context of a war against France).
Before the 30 years war started, the king of Spain was projecting an attack against the muslims of North Africa. He even wanted to lead it in person, although he had been a pretty passive king. His valido decided he wanted nothing of that and accepted the austrian call to arms with gusto.
