Opinions on Sankara? Is he one of the few examples of a relatively succesful dictatorship in Africa, or does it only show that politics is all about balancing between interests groups?

And where can i read more about this guy?

I don't know much about him, I know he was loved and that he's kinda trending with anti-euro, 'sovranists' european confusionists.
look like a cool dude though

I wouldn't say that his whole government could be used as an example of anti-western governments done right, as he was killed in a coup and frequently tortured political opponents, but it 's still damn interesting to take into consideration that he was able to create a food surplus and basically revitalized the economy of Burkina Faso while declining foreign aid. But as is probably inherent to dictatorships; he lost control.

He's known as Africa's Che.

Obviously I'm not fond of how he suppressed voting and trade unions, but I guess he's worthy of respect in how he tried to bring Burkina Faso out of feudalism and poverty while taking a stance against the French colonialists - who were probably behind his death.

Wasn't it Gaddaffi who was behind it?

Lol, why the hell would Gaddaffi want to kill him. if anything he was an ally of Gadaffi

He is an example of a relatively successful dictatorship in Africa and an example of why Africa is in the state that it's in now. He was killed by the wealthy minority in the country alienated by his policies in order to re-gain control of its resources which could then be sold to foreign companies (in this case the French). If left alone, he would no doubt have greatly improved the standards of living for the average citizen in Burkina Faso.

There were plenty of African socialist dictators, none of them managed to build a decent country. Julius Nyerere, Idi Amin, Mengistu Haile Mariam, Agostinho Neto, Ahmed Sekou Touré... all of them tried the same shit that Thomas Sankara was doing in Burkina Faso before the coup. All of them failed, none of them is remembered now because it doesn't fit this narrative >>308063
