My fathers family were Okies who came to California during the dustbowl, and my Mother's family are Mormons who originally settled in Utah back in the 1800's.

Sure, much of our history and culture has been fabricated or changed by people of England, with Gaelic now mostly dead, but I'm certainly proud of where my family came from.
Much of my family came from the Sutherland area of Scotland, and when I went there I realized its one of the most poor, desolate regions in the world to make a living out of, but my ancestors fucking did it. Not only that, but travelled the world helped found nations and played a large part in global politics, possibly not as a Scottish nation, but certainly from a Gaelic descent.
We're basically a bunch of starving savages that somehow played with the best of them, and I think I can be proud of that.
