Well that's just one aspect of law. Also, judges do follow precedents in civil law too, but in a more limited way.
Also, civil law is a lot more diverse.

Civil law also has precedent setting cases, clarifying how the codified law is supposed to be applicated and understood. This is often done by looking at the lawmaker's intent or by the use of general legal principles.

For example, the Swedish suecia principle where, in business, giving a loan without demanding security is seen as a hidden transaction of value.
