The thing you gotta remember is that the royal hotel is fucknormous. It's 120 floors. The clock tower looks as big as Big Ben but is actually vastly larger.
It makes itself, and everything around it look tiny and silly.

I mean, basically from Beaux-Arts onward it's just been about making buildings look good from the outside around a box of steel frames. I still don't understand why all these bricks were placed there at random lengths sticking out. There used to be a brass facade over the hallways too, which had a similar style, but that at least was brass and didn't look too bad. But there's just no justification for this; it doesn't even provide the cooling effect of traditional Chinese construction techniques, where you'd have wood sticking out of the mud walls of your house to cool it in the drier areas like Sichuan.

If you'd know about about its functional theory instead of judging by its look (which is not bad at all) you'd change of mind. Habitat 67 was an innovate and ambitious project for its time, and surely a work of genius.
I've never been there but this is supposed to be the face of the Central University of Venezuela, the most important school in that country. And I find it horrid, seems like they were building it and left the work halfways. Otherwise it has a beautiful auditorium that resembles some Alexander Calder sculptures.

The ugly architecture I'm referring to is the ugly-looking ski-jump-esque buliding on the right, and the clamshell sport-hall in the back. Compare with one of the best modern architecture of the white-roofed towers that are mimicking the snow-covered mountain in the back.
