Overreaching.
Succession issues.

The usual empire crumbling crap

>le imperial overextension meme

It wasn't overextension. The Umayyads just had too many delegates which eventually led to mistrusting them. Delegates from ruling governors to generals, who basically did all the heavy lifting. It was bureaucratic enough to function, but not enough to actually maintain a uniformity of rule (see: different major cities in the empire). Also the family since Muawiyah was led by a lot of lust for power (ironically). By the time of the third fitna, the rulers were obsessed with earthy pleasures and mixed with other factors, let the Abbasids revolt and claim the throne.

Fun fact:

How are problems with delegating authority not a problem of over extension?
>>
>>1413018
Because the Abbasids who revolted literally were not peripherical "The central government would not know!" types?
>>
>>1411783
It tried to centralize too much in order to become an empire, rather than stay a loose alliance of tribes with an arbiter between them.

People kept saying "U-maaaaaaad?" whenever the Caliph questioned their decisions. Eventually he got so angry he executed everyone. Including himself.

With no Caliph there could be no Caliphate.

Several reasons.
1, Too much Arab nepotism, it marginalized the ethnic minorities of the Caliphate.
2, Caliph wasn't selected by skill, knowledge or capability, but by hereditary line.
3, Also the Shia and minorities were pissed, and with their numbers combined they could easily overwhelm the Sunnis.

>What is Persian Empire
>What is the fact that the Caliphate managed to defeat the Byzantines, conquer the Balkans and manage defeat the Russians several times.

What?

Fuck if I know, maybe all their troops were busy getting their ass kicked by the franks so their provinces on the other side of the known world decided to revolt while they could

What I meant is that each area of the empire operated independently enough to avoid any central authority being too caught up in the bureaucratic process. Delegation worked, but the eventuality was that those who delegated people believed they wouldn't abdicate their power. There were also certain successors who completely mistrusted former delegates. Rulers like Al-Hajjaj were so obsessed with the idea of trust, they would kill anyone formerly associated with someone who threatened their succession. Even if those delegates were competent enough to maintain rule and thoroughfare across the land. This led to vacuums across the empire which were replaced by Abbasids, who managed to revolt using arguments such as the throne not being legitimate because it was not maintained, or people abdicated because their power was not authentic.
