Question about Vietnam War:
as far as I'm aware, the US Forces have decided to counter the guerrilla warfare from Vietnam's side with Search and Destroy tactics.
Which forces, batallions or units were mostly used to do such S&D missions?
Fucking everybody. They would throw entire divisions of something like the first infantry in the middle of nowhere attempting to intercept enemy supply lines. Sometimes you'd see basic infantry divisions fighting in the jungles and the green berets in cities.

The guerrilla war against the VC wasn't the entire war, but anyone on the ground in those areas was used. They were essentially bait. Send troops out, make contact w/ enemy, destroy enemy with superior firepower.
There were no specialized S&D units, at least not until Tiger Force.
