Its not perfect but it's generally a good indicator.
When a man marries his cleaner, GDP drops.
GDP doesn't measure taking your kids out to the park.
The Mexican gulf oil spill actually increased gdp thanks to the money spent on cleaning it up
That's why we have HDI, unemployment, median wage etc as other metrics.
