Can a person be a proper Christian while respecting religious diversity?
>>
>>1384721
Maybe. One can respect the devotion and self discipline of certain people while holding that the religion is false.

However it is proper that he should tolerate the religion, if it doesnt do any harm.
>>
If you believe people who aren't in your religion are going to hell and yet don't try your hardest to convert them aren't you a horrible, horrible person?
>>
Today? Yes
Yesterday? No
>>
You can respect the idea of diversity, but condone the idea of other religions.
>>
Diversity of doctrine? No. Diversity of rite? Sure.

Matthew 22:36-40New International Version (NIV)

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

If we render unto Caesar, because of his right to rule, then you must respect the religious freedoms that Caesar allows. I don't recall God tolerating religious freedom.
So you must therefore respect the rights of the individuals to practice their religion because Caesar says that's they are allowed to. It's just like a speed limit law. We must obey.
But that doesn't mean that the Apostates and Heathens deserve any personal respect as human beings. You must respect their right to disagree with you and respect what rights are granted to them by the state, but you MUST NOT respect them as people. Pretty simple really.

There is nothing that says you can't love those who you do not respect.

Isn't it great how simple the Bible makes it. Now let's go find some Midianites. Do you think Moses loved his wife's people before he slaughtered them?

taking pity and having mercy and being compassionate for all gods creatures.

See Catholicism.
Not only you are obliged to respect, but house, kiss and lick the feet of other religions. So tolerant.

I can see you're trying to be funny but i'll bite. For one to wash another's feet is strongly symbolic of their commitment to servanthood and humility.

I honestly love how mad it makes you that the pope acts like a Christian.
>>

yes

Christianity was a minority religion for centuries in the Roman empire. That doesnt mean you dont try to convert other people.

The word "Catholic" means eclectic. Historically, their clergy have been expected to be adept scholars, researchers, and students of world culture as well as priests of the Christian faith.
>>

No, eclectic and Catholic come from 2 entirely different Greek words.

Eclectic comes from ἐkλεkτός meaning "to select/choose" while Catholic comes from kαθολιkός meaning "universal," which itself comes from the Greek phrase kαθόλου meaning "on the whole", "according to the whole" or "in general", and is a combination of the Greek words kατά meaning "about" and ὅλος meaning "whole"

Yes the fact is that most people aren't devout followers of their own religion. Anybody that tells you they are some kind of Saint or holier than thou figure is probably full of shit. If you want someone to punish for not being a true believer start with yourself because if we all went around looking for someone to crucify for being sinners we would all be dead.
