Britain can't ever hold on to a colony, everytime they refuse to enfranchise the population.
By making the colonies self governing and having the crown only take care of foreign policy.
Americans were so isolationist at that time that they wouldn't care.
But having policy made for them from across the ocean is retarded, even more so during the age of sail.
