Would you rather fight in a modern battle such as Stalingrad or a medieval battle like Towton?

Towton had more opportunities to flee / play dead, so that.

In terms of warfare which is more objectively brutal?

I would pick Stalingrad just to see how brutal it was. I would want to be on the German side, during one of the stormings of the tractor factory.

Stalingrad. Don't want gonorrhea from a minor wound.

>play dead

then drown

Stalingrad.

Blackpowder fucking sucks.

but you want to starve for a month, lose your ears and toes to the frost, get beaten to death with lead pipe and get eaten by your comrades?

Medieval battles were much less threatening, as casualties were generally more limited, and you could actively protect yourself from almost everything the enemy was doing to kill you, while in modern warfare, you will die without ever having known what killed you, and in 20th century battles, casualty numbers were significantly higher in terms of actual number of men killed over wounded/captured.

However, the horror of medieval warfare was the campaign. Outside battles, medieval armies engaged in unimaginable brutality against civilians, there was rampant disease outbreaks, especially things like dysentery and cholera, that could (and very often did) wipe armies out, and against which you, at the time, would have no knowledge of prevention (similar to how you have little to no personal ability to prevent your death in a modern battle), and leads to an extremely drawn out and agonising death.

I'd rather fight in a medieval battle, as the chances of dying would be significantly reduced and I have the ability to influence my fate.

I'd rather fight in a modern war, as while battles like the Somme and Stalingrad were brutal beyond comparisson, if you make it through that, you will likely survive the war, as outside the major battles, modern warfare is pretty comfy when compared to medieval warfare.

In any case i'll die so...
