The Dynasty called itself Timurid (2.0) or Gurkani. It celebrates its descent from up to Timur and by no means saw itself as a Mongol Dynasty nor a Steppe Nomad dynasty. The Mughals saw themselves as refined, Pesianate Muslim Lords, and saw Mongols as barbarian niggers.
The Mughal appellation was BY THE HINDUS. Since as far as Hindus at the time were concerned, every bow-twanging horseborne asiatic cunt was a Mongol. Babur himself and his multinational army of Turkics, Turko-Mongols, Mongols, Iranics, and the odd Arab looked like that to the Native Indian populace.
