That said, I live about 1 hour from Muir Woods. Unless you get there before sunrise or go on a rainy weekday during the school year, the thing that will stand out the most is how fucking crowded it is.
I went on a 13 mile hike in Point Reyes on Memorial Day weekend. Got there around 7:30am and there were already cars at the trailhead. Luckily the crowds didn't really come in full force until we were heading back, and we were still on a popular trail, but Jesus...

The perfect environs is upstate New York. Beautiful woods, beautiful post-glacial mountain landscape, plentiful flint and chert for stone tools, cool soft grass, and mild weather year-round. The Hudson valley is perfect imo.

California has literally the perfect climate, abundant natural resources, no tropical diseases, etc. The weather is so mild, the water so teeming with fish, and the soil so fertile that the Indians never even had to develop tilling to sustain their populations.

It is so not too cold. Its called building a house/hut and wearing furs. I suppose I have more cold tolerance than most but I still feel NY is quite temperate.

Actually thats probably the best part of upstate is the distinct lack of niggers north of Newburgh.
But yeah if I'm going out in the woods I want to basically play real life minecraft, built a house, fish, plant crops, build tools, etc. That would give me existential satisfaction.
