>talk to one of the younger monks in his 20's about Marxism, and he is already familiar with it
>apparently very educated
>ask him, "So, are monks lumperproletariat, or bourgeoisie?"
>he says, "Which ever is the most wretched and sinful, I am that."
>mfw
>>

It sounds like you feel intellectually intimidated
>>
>>1213602
False modesty is disgusting.
>>
He may have not been educated from birth or teens in a good school or religious school, the latter of which used to have the best education, i'm not sure anymore. So you can't blame him.

>very educated

is a broad term.

But you have to remember monks like normal people also go through their own spiritual and personal struggles and journey like anyone else. 1 monk isn't a representation of every monk.
>>
>>1213699
He read Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Heraclitus, Adam Smith, Spinoza, Descartes, David Ricardo, Marx, Hegel, Fichte and countless others I can't remember.
>>
>>1213608
How?

>>1213692
Agreed
>>
>>1213602
>"So, are monks lumperproletariat, or bourgeoisie?"

This is actually an interesting question. They're definitely not bourgeoisie, but their status as lumpenproles would depend on the relationship of the church to the state.
>>
>>1214029
Didn't Marx hate religion, though? He'd probably view them as Bourgeoisie because they're part of the oppressive system (his words not mine).
>>
Definitely not lumpenproles dumbass. You leftists don't actually read any of the stuff Marx wrote, you just memorize bullet points to show your edgy SJW "identity" while smoking pot.
>>
>>1213602
Bourgeois then
>>
>>1213602
Monks are pretty proletarian tbqh.
>>
>>1214076
Marx had peculiar views on religion, he didn't particularly like it at all but he wasn't exactly a big crusader for atheism either.

>He'd probably view them as Bourgeoisie because they're part of the oppressive system
You aren't bourgeoisie just by being part of the system, you're bourgeoisie by having private property. Everyone is part of the system. Case in point lumpenproletariat are class-traitors of the highest order, yet they're still proletariat no less.

A lot of monks probably do fall into the category of lumpenproletariat. However what determines that isn't their profession but rather their potential to attain class consciousness, which has a lot more to do with personal ideology.
>>
>>1214076
>Didn't Marx hate religion, though?
Eh, depends. He kinda viewed it as a symptom of the world being fucked up in general, and a coping mechanism by proles getting screwed by the bourg.
>>
>>1214095
Nice memes.
>>
>>1214127
>bourgeoisie by having private property.
And since monks tend to not have significant private property, they'd be lumpen.
>>
>>1214135
>lumpen
Once again it depends. Some monks are probably very likely to attain class-consciousnesss (or already have), some monks probably never will. As I say whether or not you're a lumpenprole isn't determined by your profession.
>>
>>1213608
thread/
>>
>>1214139
But proles in any case, right?
>>
>>1214139
Correct me if I am wrong, but does proletariat not mean working class? Monks commit to doing labour for the monastery, reading, praying and attending liturgies and what not. But their work is for the monastery, for their souls and not their wallets.

Is it right at all to lump them in any "caste"?

In a weird way monks already have communism, so I suppose by living in a classless society they aren't really any class.
>>
>>1214204
Funny thing is, Christianity is one of the only things that sorta made communism work decently. From monasteries, to roman-era communes, to amish and mennonites.
There were even some soviet communes made by an ukrainean orthodox temperance preacher dude (surprise, surprise, kind words and inspiring people to work for the greater good works better than threats and Moscow stealing 90% of your grains to "redistribute" it).
Of course, the USSR got pissed those damn religious fags were making them look bad by comparison, so pic related
>>
>>1214204
Yes, I thought as much. I'd see monk as someone who is dead to the world either way, so I'd suppose one might even find insulting being asked to which category the monk falls in human society. And orthodox monks believe in being humble, seeing yourself below everyone else and not flashing your knowledge or speaking without good reason. That might explain the monk's reply. Of course it could also be false modesty.

Church I go to has some former commies, one of them told me after the fall of Soviet Union half of them started drinking and the other half started attending church, now thinking the perfect society would be communism with orthodox church.

Dunno how that would work, I certainly aren't too eager to try

He didn't even understand the question. He just essentially said he picks the side most offensible by Marxism. So all he's saying is he's anti-marxist. Hardly an insight of note.
>>
Now, that's a real human being, and a real hero.
>>
>>1218321
He was saying that because was trying to be humble. One of the most important prayers for an Orthodox monk is "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner".

But that's capitalism.

There's a reason Jesus threw the merchants out of the temple. Now we need to finish the job and throw them into the gulag.
