I've read 5 books on WWI and my favourite for a general overview was A World Undone. Easier to understand than The Guns of August, but not as detailed as The Sleepwalkers. Honestly a great way to get a pretty complete look at the start to the end, but for after effects I'd still read Paris 1919.
If you are american and want a POV from that side, try To The Last Man, it's got a lot of detail and is written as a novel.
