Why isn't this guy one of the greatest? Or even memorable for that matter? He managed to be both a diplomatic success and a war time success, probably getting us the biggest chunk of modern America ever (besides Alaska), and he does it all in ONE TERM. He worked so hard he died shortly after leaving? Shouldn't we consider him at least top 10?
Polk is such a meme president. Only a fool would think the measure of a president's greatness is measured in the acres of territory he acquired.

I'm pretty sure he does rank in the top ten on most lists. He only served one term which is probably why he doesn't get as much memorializing. I grew up near his birth place so we learned shit ton about him so we definitely learned a lot about him in school and he was always one of my favorite.
Polk was a mistake.
Populating the southwest stretched whites out too thin and left us defenseless.
Southwest is becoming mexican in all but name.
Isn't Polk revered in Panama or some shit?

You're thinking of Hayes who helped arbitrate a land disupte between Paraguay and Argentina which gave Paraguay most of its modern territory so he's seen as a heroic figure there.
Hayes and his wife were qt as fuck when they were younger. Would teetotal for her.
