They did want to support the Budapest revolt, but then France and UK fucked that up by invading Suez.
The CIA kept Italy from going red in the late 40s by funding the Christian Democrats.
Not to mention installing successful democracies in Germany and Japan, holding the line against the USSR for 50 years, giving delicious capitalism to Korea, funding Solidarity in Poland, and rebuilding all of Western Europe with the Marshall Plan.
We would even have done it for Eastern Europe if the Reds had let us.
