Because Germany couldn't be trusted. Britain mostly fought Germany in WW2 for the same reason they did in WW1, German containment. Britain, France, and Russia were fine having other countries in Europe be relevant but Germany always wanted a German Europe. A British peace treaty would effectively be admitting German hegemony over European politics.
Plus Britain had nothing to lose by fighting Germany in WW2 while Germany had plenty to lose by fighting Britain. There was no reason for Britain to negotiate with Germany especially after Hitler effectively destroyed France as a relevant nation.
