I live in the Château de Cirey on the border of Champagne and Lorraine. My name is François-Marie Arouet.
I'm 39 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a writing prose and satire about the Holy Roman Empire.
In the morning if my hand is a little stiff I'll put on an ice pack while doing satirical pamphlets. I can write 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I write letters mocking religion. In the letter I call Christianity superstitious, then deride the Jews, and at the end complain about their usury.
Then I apply a polemic on Islam, which will take 10 minutes to read while I lead up to the rest of my criticism. I always leave an afterthought about the Holy Roman Empire, because it was neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire.
There is an idea of a Voltaire; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my smug gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.
