In general they don't. Only the Commonwealth anglophone marxists, Francophone pseudo-marxists, and Italian non-party marxists are decent historiographers and worth calling marxist.
Outside of Annales, CPGB Historians Group & attendants, and Italian Workerism you'll find that marxist historiography is schematic.
Dialectical materialism is the most childish, idiotic tripe in the history of social sciences.
