The ancient Romans had such beautiful architecture, why did no one bother to keep most of it in good repair all these years?

>there will never be an Olympic event or World Cup match at the Flavian Amphitheater.

Are you aware about how fucking expensive maintaining such pathrimony is? Even for todays rich and peaceful European countries?
>>

Why aren't you there repairing it? You can travel there and volunteer your time to help.

>bububububububut money and time and time is moneyyyy
Exactly, fag.

As Italian:
The colusseum is restored 2 years ago.
But like all the restoration it has been a conservative resoration not a rebuilding.

No one would come to see statues from 2016.

Rome fucking shrank during the period between 500's-1000s.

The land in Rome's peripheries was reclaimed by the elements. People were literally FARMING within the walls of the city. The Forum was buried under soil.

>Rome fucking shrank during the period between 500's-1000s.
That's a big euphemism for "90% population loss in 50 years". As the fucking barbs tore down the aqueducts and the local government lacked the funds to rebuild them, the city naturally shrank back to what the Tiber alone could support.

It wasn't the Barbs that did that, it was the Romans trying reclaim their peninsula.

Its the same deal with Constantinople. In Istanbul today people grow crops literally within the old walls.
Just a product of the times, when you dont use the buildings around you they become decrepit. At the time with Rome there were far more important things to spend money on than an old dream.

Official language was Latin at this point.

And even so, there is no denying that it was, in fact, the direct continuation of the Roman government.
