Why couldn't France conquer the Channel Islands. They're so much closer to France they're basically surrounded by Brittany and Normandy.

I've heard you can swim there from France.

You can swin the whole channel.

Have the islands ever been any important for basing fleets in or anything? Can see why the French wouldn't like to waste troops at it if they wouldn't gain much of it anyway
And it's not like they are visible at most maps, so no need to annex them to make the map look prettier like the USA did with Florida.

> The British had too many troops for the battle, a British soldier later saying that a third of the British troops would have been more than enough to destroy the French army. Many British soldiers, confused and having nothing to shoot at, fired most of their shots into the air.

>21 hours

Fuck that.

Because they would be starting war with a navel superpower for some tiny islands worth shit. Plus most of the islanders are English, you would have to have a military presence to quell rebellions. What's the point
>>
Much more English influence

That tend to happen when you outnumber the enemy almost 3 to 1 in a low numbers battle...

When was the last time they tried to conquer them?

Hitler seems to have no trouble when he tried.

Mainly because Britain let the Germans take them.
