psychology is the study of how humans (and animals) acquire knowledge about the world. it doesn't matter which sub-discipline you look into. it's all essentially empirical epistemology.

epistemology as a philosophical field isn't empirical - psych is a step above cuz it carries out experiments. they don't conduct experiments. experimental psychologists establish the limits of how humans acquire/process/output/manipulate information. it's not all based on reasoning - it's based on evidence.
