/his/ I am in need of assistance. I am currently trying to write an essay demonstrating some of the similarities between Scandinavian odinsim and Roman paganism in my world history class. The problem is that I need at least a few primary sources of things like their practices and accounts that show their attitudes towards the gods and I have been unable to locate anything except some documents on mythology. Can any of you recommend any primary sources for Norse practices or databases full of this sort of thing?
>>
Use the Snorri Forward that claims Norse gods were actually Trojan immigrants

I'm thinking of including a section on apotheosis, but my biggest issue is trying to find primary sources, especially with the Scandinavians. I didn't realize going into this that most of our literature on Norse worship was written after the conversion to Christianity. I think that our professor wants heavy emphasis on what we can figure out oursleves from the firsthand writings of the groups we chose.

You expected snowniggers to have developed narrative literature?

There are none

I wasn't aware of Snorri until recently, and given Odin's emphasis on the search for knowledge and the runic alphabet, I thought that at the very least, there would be records of religious rituals and major leadership changes.
>>
>>1003583
A lot of shit was destroyed as well. But the Norse primarily kept oral histories and folklore.
>>
>>1003580
Fuck. Do you think the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda are acceptable? Are there any written records of anything pre Christian Germanic people did in their exploration at least? Or am I going to have to change the core of my essay eight hours before it's due?

By digging under a mountain in search for booze...

>the runic alphabet

Pic related.

The best you'll get are the runestones which all pretty much read along the lines of

"GRIMNER PUT THIS ROCK HERE :-DDDD:DD:D"
>>

Humans were also sacrificed to Odin by hanging from trees and being pierced by spears. That a Jesus analogue too?
>>
>>1003621
>Pic related.

We've been over this. Repeatedly. Both of those alphabets stem from Phoenician. Stop posting that fucking image.
>>
>>1003621
Well thanks a lot. I've never been required to use primary sources outside of Biology before and I thought the hours I spent trying to find what I was looking for was natural because of the scarcity of translated sources in history or something of that nature.

Snowniggers were pre-literate so you're out of luck I'm afraid.

I can't, but you're on a board dedicated to the academic discussion of histories and humanities. It's poor form to post an intentionally misleading image on such a board, and speaks more negatively of your position than anything else. Also you're a cunt.

It isn't misleading; it shows that the runic alphabet did not originate in snowniggerheim.

Carving magical incantations into axe blades does not make a civilization "literate."
>>
>>1003680
It implies that the elder futhark alphabet is a product of the Hebrew alphabet and suggests that Odin is a Christ analogue with no basis. That's called misleading, you goddamn imbecile. Are you that butthurt Pole that's upset that there are Rodnoverists in your country?

The Allfather hanging from a tree is obviously a Christ-analog though.
>>
>>1003708
Except it's not. It's an independently arisen mythological feature that shares a visual similarity to Christ's crucifixion. The fact the Norse pagans were sacrificing people in a similar fashion before contact with Christians demonstrates that its not a Christ analogue. You're utterly worthless.

Mythologies have similarities because they all have contact with the same spirit world; all nations anticipated the Allfather's death in some form.

Mary's son accomplished it in this world.

Adam of Bremen wrote that every 9 years 9 males of every species were hanged on sacred groves as sacrifices to the gods. Note the number 9, the same number of days and nights Odin hanged in the Rúnatal.

One of Odin's names is Hangatýr, God of the Hanged.

King Vikar is sacrificed to Odin by being handed from a tree and being pierced by a spear.

The Romans recorded Germanic tribes sacrificing prisoners of war to their gods by hanging from trees.

This is way too steeped in the religion to be taken from Christianity, and it may even go back to Proto-Indo-European times.

Religions like onions. Exterior may be different, but essence very near. For nation was need patron of army so lets a god of war be: Thor/Ares/Al-Qawiy/Al-Mumit. For nation was need patron of fishers so lets a god of Ocean be Niordr/Poseidon/Al-Wali/Al-Hadi. etc..
