For some reason if you give Sylvie a sandwich during the early stages of the game instead of a pancake it lowers her happiness gauge or whatever it is that determines your good/bad deeds. It actually lowers the gauge enough that if you fuck up anywhere else along the line, you'll get the bad end of the game.

It's so obvious that giving her the sandwich is a dick move and shows you don't really care about her and what she might want. Of course she is not going to ask for pancakes even if she really wants them, so don't be a jerk and make her happy.
Also makes sense to not excessively take care of her and stay by her side all the time when she is sick if affection for the other isn't high enough.
The affection being low is just a direct reflection of the player's actions, which show the player not caring enough about her, so that's reflected in the game through stats.

They're coming. It's hard to say how far because the lines are all over the place, and I don't feel like figuring out which are which rather than just trucking through. I basically just have to eyeball it once it's over to make sure I didn't miss any.
Thankfully a lot were fairly simple lines, such as names and tidbits of interaction that already had a basis in the story.

Heh, you should've seen it when I was doing the corrections in the scripts themselves with all the code intact for 1.16. That was a ton of fun. Hell I noticed a typo I left intact accidentally that will be fixed for 1.22 relating to making drugs.
For some reason the original script said 'I used all my pink flowers to make 1...' rather than correctly saying 'I used all my pink flowers to make ##...'. Since the option is there to basically convert everything you have on hand into one drug or another, not just make one superpowered drug.
It's fun. Good practice either way, I'm majoring in Japanese so any and all interaction with the language is excellent to keep my skills fresh and tests easy.

Non-native-English anon here, you are doing it right.
Languages are not taught in school, you have to immerse yourself into them, on your own account. Anything else will give you but a basic understanding of the language.
If you want, I could hack you a Perl script (or something in C would be also possible) to do the check for you. It's not that much work - unless you are working on a Mac, because for these I am lacking the ability to compile. :) But Windows or Linux should be no problem.

And yeah, I actually taught myself through books at first (verb conjugation and particle words), then immersed in as much as I could to get reading and conversational experience. I do regret not taking classes earlier though because my writing is elementary-schooler-level (I didn't teach myself writing, only reading and conversation) and there were some basic things I somehow managed to miss.
Like how the 'n' sound before 'desu' insinuates that one wants to continue engaging in conversation. You have no idea how painful it was to learn that and then wonder how many people I'd insulted prior to that day by not picking up on such a small thing. I had no idea that sound held such an important meaning.
So yeah. Immersion is definitely super important, but formal classes give you structure that you may not otherwise receive. It's a balance. I will say that for the most part the work is easy, though my current teacher is kinda anal about calligraphy. lol

When it comes to wanting to help translating, I would suggest going to the thread on ulmf where the patch for 1.16 was posted and contact them there. Should be easier to reach the guy on ulmf than on 4chan, I imagine.

My method was to get books on verb conjugation, particles, and a decent kanji dictionary. Study the first two like mad, keep the third as reference. Once you think you've got the book-smarts, go play voiced eroge and watch animus and live-action dramas. If you're lucky enough to have a Mitsuwa or some other Japanese culture center nearby, hang around it.
Basically, once you've got the grammar down it's really just filling in vocab and learning to not sound like a dumb foreigner. The eroge are to learn reading though, since once you get a feel for listening you can start matching what you hear with the text on-screen. Formal classes will help too but they'll expect you to write as well.

The game could still go on for a bit with the relationship developing, giving Sylvie more confidence and have her really become her own person. I'd also love for her to take the lead some more if she really wants something like in the last neglect scene. (Too bad you have to turn her down for that to happen. Normally I wouldn't do that as she is way too cute when asking and I hate to see her sad and her needs not met.)
If I were making the game, I'd include some more dialogue options as well. I'd love to be able to be nicer and more reassuring. Her asking how she should change is always making me feel bad and I want to tell her not to.

I do agree that there are allot of dick MCs in games that are dicks and that it is refreshing to have a nice MC for once. But, Teaching Feeling leaves itself open to interpretation, for the most part the MC just describes basic things (such as observations and what describes what Sylvie does) and doesn't really have a real guiding voice. The MC is completely open for the player to project their their emotions into the role. The game does not tell you what to feel nor how you should feel in any given situation and that's the genius of the game; it gives the player the freedom to naturally form a bond with Sylvie without forcing the player to feel the MC's emotions. Since the MC is such a blank slate there should be options to be sinister because it would match the whole theme of the MC being an extension of the player rather than the player being dragged along by the whims of the MC. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer to see a happy Sylvie. But, limiting the sinister option would deny the MC's role as an extension of the player's emotions and whims.

Problem is I do like some of the girls. The writing is bad at times (as in suspension of disbelief gone), but I just don't get the fact why that guy just has to be a prick at times, both during and outside of sex scenes.
