I disagree. Although I see why you'd think it's stupid.
The armbar is a pretty solid move for beginners and if you're not trained in BJJ yourself, it's extremely difficult to get out of. Normally in these situations, you're taught to go for the rear-naked choke and put them to sleep. But the world and schools are so PC these days that it could be considered an attempt at murder (Stupid, I know)
So it's safer and easier just to throw them in an armbar, embarrass them a bit and show them that if you wanted to you could break their arm and still only call it self-defense.
