The very obvious fact that the last book was released before Melisandre even appeared in the TV show says you are clearly wrong. So unless George showed up at some point and said "hey you guys fucked up this minor detail", but I doubt that given how little they care about the major fuck up I don't think George would bother telling them nor would they care enough to correct their mistake.
Then there is the 3 easy ways to explain how she could look normal without the necklace.
1. Her magic isn't really magic, just illusions and its easy to trick people who want to believe. (Stated directly by Mel)

Honestly, the source material is very inconsistent. Parts of the story, certain characters, certain plotlines even, are well written and interesting.
But that's about 60% of the books, the rest is almost unreadable, and tbqh, it's the later books that have the least good in them.
I don't even plan on finishing the books, if they ever come out.It's basically just nihilistic Tolkien, like so many have said. I just think a writer owes me something for my time besides, "Bweh! Bweh! Terrible things happening for no reason! Bweh! All is rot! Bweh!"
That's why basically the only hardcore fans of the series and Martin are all nihilistic atheists who basically think the more characters die, the more realistic and therefore good a novel is.

I've read half of the first book(couldnt stay interested) and started season 2 recently. It's a decent show, but nowhere near as good as some people hype it up, and this is exactly why.

R, Martin as I have never picked up a single book by him that I recall but asserting that all of his fans are "Nihilistic atheists" seems a bit of a stretch to say the least.
